Google Map Offline
You can use Google Maps offline now
Once upon a time if your where going to a place you didn’t know you’d buy an A-Z or download directions and print them off to take with you. Not anymore. Now all you need is your phone.
Your map appears at the click of a button and directions are easy to get and there’s even a nice big blue dot showing you exactly where you are and what’s around you. That’s all great, but what happens when you lose your 3G/4G signal or wi-fi then you’re in trouble or if you go someone where a little more remote and there isn’t any service. Hysteria, panic and cold sweats.
Well you don’t have to worry about that any more, Google Maps now works offline.
You can download a map of a place to your phone in four easy steps.
- Just search for a place, for example Birmingham.
- Then at the bottom of your screen tap the bar that has the name of place you’ve just searched for.
- Then On the top right, touch the menu (the three vertical dots).
- Select Save offline map and that will save an offline version of your map. (You have to sign in to Google Maps to save an offline map).
Just use Google Maps as normal, if you find yourself with dodgy signal or no wi-fi connection, the app will automatically move offline mode, and there will be no need for you to panic.
